Oaks Members,
There is a lot of legislation, current and in process, regarding Mobile Home Communities and I try my best to provide input to our legislators and the lobby groups that work for our rights, but the more voices they here from, hopefully the more we will be heard. In spite of paying the taxes that many others do, we do not get all the services. This is one of those topics and we want to fight to ensure that in the case of a natural disaster, we would have the same benefits from FEMA and other resources. Please take time to review this, and then, if you so desire, show your support of this position by clicking on the link below to sign you name to the efforts to get this valuable assist should we ever need it.

Community Associations Institute is pleased to announce the introduction of bipartisan legislation that expands access to FEMA disaster assistance to community associations. Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) sponsored the bill with Representative David Rouzer (R-NC) co-sponsoring. Additional co-sponsors of this legislation include John Garamendi (D-CA), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Paul Ruiz (D-CA), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and Lee Zeldin (R-NY).
About the Disaster Assistance Equity Act
The Disaster Assistance Equity Act will correct current inequities in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster response system. Under the current law, community associations affected by a presidentially declared natural disaster—blizzard, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane, or tornado—are NOT given the same FEMA financial recovery support for debris removal and other efforts as their neighbors.
Together, we can conserve resources and save community association residents millions of dollars in disaster recovery efforts.
Respectfully,
Dawn M. Bauman, CAE
SVP, Government Affairs

- Condominiums & Housing Cooperatives: If this bill passes, individual owners in condominiums and housing cooperatives will be reimbursed for their fair share of repair or replacement of critical major common area elements facilities like boiler rooms, elevators, roofs, etc.
- Homeowners Associations: If this bill passes, homeowners associations with privately-owned roads will be able to rely upon the locality (city, county, town, etc.) to remove debris from the private roads resulting in huge savings for association residents.
Together, we can conserve resources and save community association residents millions of dollars in disaster recovery efforts.
